your scl-easter island-tahiti/moorea/bora bora-nz-au sounds good to me...

easter island no more than 2 full days, 3 days in tahiti [1 to ferry to moorea] for a boat ride, you can see enough of the north island by car in 4 days & maybe 3 on the south island]....maybe 4 around melborne w/car, 3 at the barrier reef, 3 in sydney...total incl travel days < a month...

an akl-syd cruise w/ barrier reef add on might be attractive...

a day or two in singapore/hong kong might be worthwhile on the way back if y'all haven't been there....of course you are out of the south pacific there...

i/we have been to all, some more than once...

places like new guinea, java, borneo, timor, bali, java,etc/etc i would not do on the 1st trip....
