RauDZ, Kelowna

(Not sure if I got the cases right in the name)

A newish restaurant in downtown Kelowna just in case any one comes up here. Focus is on more exciting food than what many of the locals want. Went there yesterday evening. Food is very nicely presented and focusses on local suppliers so a claimed 80% of food is sourced in B.C. Had a salad (still huge after). Food, especially vegetables, seems to focus on freshness rather than being overcooked, and lightness rather than being rich. Went on to share a veal cheek pasta which was tasty and with barely cooked (in a good way) carrots. Nice flavourful tomato sauce that was light.

My partner had the lamb loin which was good but from my taste, I found the mushroom topping to be a little bit too salty. My duck was very nice with a smoked breast and a roasted confit leg that came with a cherry sauce.

It would appear spicing was minimal in everything so I found the flavours to be more than a little bit muted compared to food in Vancouver (then again, we had been eating home-made curries made with asian sauces for over 2 weeks).

Food prices were very reasonable but we found wine and liquor prices to be a bit much (cheapest bottle of wine was $40 for a $15 retail bottle.)

Chef-owner works in the kitchen for what it's worth.

The name is somewhat derived from the last name of one of the owners, and not simply a play on the majority of people in town.
