Definitely better to do the status match and try to get upgrade as CO Plat. Higher on upgrade priority list, life time miles, etc. Book now with your UA number, and once your CO plat gets matched simply change it over in the reservation.

Your reservation will give you two reference numbers, one UA, one CO. Use the CO one on the CO website to manage the reservation.
