To be honest, I feel that the starpoints offer is weak given the ~2 hours I spent last night trying to get a room + all the aggravation and inconvenience. My first priority was just to get a room tonight and lower my expense (my employer would not have approved of the Mandarin Oriental at $800+).
I will keep everyone posted on any new developments. Thanks everybody for the words of support and assistance. This community is great.
Given the you were walked by the hotel, the Starwood policy mandates that you receive a credit equals to at least the category of the hotel in question, which is 12,000-16,000 points in this case. How can they offer you only 10,000 points?

Who offered this? The hotel or Starwood? Surely, if it's Starwood, then this is more than just low ball, they are again ignoring their own established policy. If it's the hotel, this just reinforces a similar trend as they appear to have little regard for brand standards.
