I am currently a Gold Elite member of Continental One pass, I am planning to change to Aeroplan this year, would Aeroplan match my status?

It's easier to achieve Elite status in Aeroplan, only 35000 per year, than One pass. I usually will fly from YYZ to HKG twice per year, getting 35000 sounds easier for me. The only drawback for me to use my Aeroplan card is, since I don't have elite status with AC, they won't let me carry 3 luggages to HKG. Is it a way that I can use my Onepass elite status to check 3 bags, then collect the milage using aeroplan?

I asked the check-in counter staff at one point, he said I can try using my onepass gold elite card when checking my bag. When I get to the gate, tell the gate agent that I would like to change back to aeroplan instead. Since they already checked my baggage, they won't charge me anymore. Do you think it will work?
