I've so far always been able to have them billing into RMB when complaining, but given some of the reports here, apparently some terminals even don't have this option. So, given on what the receipt says "I've been offered the choice and I've choosen to pay in CHF/Euro/US$/whatever" when you clearly told them to bill you in RMB, and that they can't actually change it to RMB, why not just tell them you won't pay unless they are able to proceed the bill in your prefered currency, which is RMB?

Of course, this is probably NOT a good idea at smaller stores, or when in a hurry, but maybe when having some time and at a larger brand/hotel, why not do it? If a Marriott can't bill you on RMB when you tell them so on your Visa, why should they deserve a penny? What would they really do? Call the police over their scam? Especially when you've a company behind you, that would be pretty much suicide for them.

It maybe sounds crazy, but if we could get enough people to do so, what would be their choice be? The slip clearly says we had a choice - well, if they can't give me that choice after refusing to be billed in foreign currency, then I was clearly scamed and thus have no reason to actually pay the bill, isn't it?

It really seems to get out of hand, with more and more countries moving over to the DCC scam - I'm only travelling regularely since 3 years, and 3 years ago I can tell you I never realised about DCC, it has started during the last 2 years and got worse every time.. I think when I posted the first time in this thread, I was still under the impression that it happens because some banks try to generate some free money on the unknown traveller, now it feels more like most banks world-wide are joining in scamming people without choice.
