You're right, its not a daft rule in the main and I certainly did not have a go at the agent for it (who was apologetic anyway for not being able to make the change), when the other pax is obviously your wife though, flying the exact same intinerary, with the same name, address etc etc, it does seem slightly OTT to not allow the other partner to make a change, as opposed to making them phone up too, queue for 15 mins etc...
There should be an option on booking and in MMB, where you can add the details of other EC members (who can then be security cleared by the agent on calling) who can alter your bookings. In fact I suspect there is an option (if not onine), well know there is, at BMI at least, where on making the change to my friends booking, the agent enquired as to whether Mt Cap'n Benj could be allowed to make future changes.
