It is a daft rule, I had it with my wife recently where we were on separate PNRs recently, I have previously used the above trick though, if pretending to be a male friend as opposed to a lady, I suspect they knew but what can they do!
Why is it a daft rule? Would you be happy if someone decided to cancel or change a flight of yours without telling you?
