It just irks me that even if this is a 'systems requirement' which ultimately doesn't go anywhere, the US government has no business getting involved in my leisure plans.
The ticketing carrier solicits the information. You can make up stuff in such situations. That said, I'm betting that credit card info from such ticket purchases is at least periodically used to draw links.
