Promotion also depends on where they are based. SFO-based FAs get promotion faster, but are only trained on 74As (they are not on 77As). If they move to HKG, they will likely be retrained on other A/Cs and restart from a lower grade.
I think some SFO based crew are trained on the 77A or at least gradually the base is being trained, because the 77A has flown to SFO in some seasons in the past. It is also expected in the future that the 77A will replace the 747A on the HKG-SFO route, so SFO based crew will most likely be by that time dual trained on the 77A and 747.
This would have happened to the LAX based crew, who like SFO, would have also only been trained on 747A originally, but now LAX is an all 77A route.
YVR crew must be trained on 747, A340 and 77A as all three aircraft frequent YVR, although the A340 has now been fully replaced by 747 leaving just that and 77A for YVR crew.
