Yeah, for me the idea of the merchants not getting a piece of the pie doesn't pass the smell test. When someone designs a profit making scheme like DCC, they usually take the people on the front lines into account. Furthermore, while people like us (the complainers) represent only a small fraction of the consumer market, methinks DCC would not be expanding at such an alarming rate if the merchants didn't see any upside (our persistent complaints have to sink into some skulls).
I've been DCCed three times during the past week, all by 交通银行 establishments (including a Marriott today), and all with thermal slips. In each case, I accompanied the waitress to the POS machine in an attempt to redo the transaction sans-DCC. But, I haven't noticed any opt out abilities at all (the machine and the process is remarkably simple); so,
based on my present level of knowledge, this processor does not offer a choice, which could make it a good target for us. In the unlikely case any of you guys are connected with Jiaotong Bank execs, a bit of follow up would be appreciated (walking into the local branch downstairs probably wouldn't be super effective).
