Groombridge - Great trip report - we stayed at Amanbagh, Oberoi Amarvilas and the Taj Lake Palace (in which we had the same suite as the you!), and I'd agree with your views on all of them except Amarvilas.

We hit that hotel at the end of our trip, and maybe it was our room choice, but were left distinctly underwhelmed - the pervading noise from the neighbourhood coupled with a formulaic service style with staff struck a sour note compared to other hotels on our travels.
