It doesn't really make sense to avoid ground school as a cost-saving measure. It's only a couple of hundred bucks. What you have to budget for is the 50+/- flight instruction hours, at about $200 per hour, it takes to get to your check ride. My kid is just about there, but he's flying out of PAE in Washington, not Englewood. Google "Englewood flight instruction" or "Englewood CFI" and see what happens.
