One thing to note: if you don't have checked baggage, there is a line right next to the Global Entry machines in the immigration hall in Terminal E that can speed you through immigration. I've used it a time or two returning from short trips to Europe. Once your passport is stamped, you are routed around all of the baggage carousels and dumped directly through the customs checkpoint after baggage claim.
