Lidl is "okay" for picking up an item or two here and there but I'd be hard pressed to shop weekly for all of my grocery needs there. Big difference, IMO, between stopping by a store while on a short trip as opposed to living there and using the store as your main source of purchasing sustenance.
No question -- I don't think I'd do a large percentage of my food shopping at Lidl if I actually lived in Europe. I mean, how often are you looking for inexpensive Holiday chocolates?
I do think I would occasionally swing by to look at the cheap wine, though. It would seem to be the equivalent -- or better -- of "Two Buck Chuck" at Trader Joes. BTW, Lidl probably has the only wine selection in the world where I try to buy their MOST expensive selections. I'm kind of afraid to buy the 2 Euro and under bottles! But I have been satisfied by their "expensive" wines. I don't think I've ever seen a wine there over 5 Euros.
