@OP: If the airline agent(s) overlook the expiry date, the immigration guys in the US won't. I wouldn't try to enter the US with a passport that doesn't comply with the rules you pointed to (PDF file).

Above it was stated that he is fine for the US but needs to check FRA. And Cuba libre explained the rule for FRA. Adding up *A Flyer and cuba libre's posting, varunkrish should be fine
