Bit OT but any country that is a member of the European Broadcasting Union (cue Te Deum) can enter the Eurovision Song Contest. Most countries in North Africa are (including Egypt) and so could if they wished. The only one to have done so is Morocco which participated in the 1980 competion - which was won, incidentally, by Ireland!
And yes, I promise to try and get out more....
