I have much more experience with Homewood and thay are uniformly wonderful. I have heard good things about the Lakewood, CO Homewood.
Homewood: Better evening receptions, more courses (mini salad bar, 2 hot entrees, dessert, 2 kinds of wine + beer although liquor avail. is hit and miss). You are getting a hell of a lot of points as well.
RI: My one experience was not very nice-- definitely subpar to my 6 Homewood experiences (multiple stays at 6 different hotels). Points earned not as many. Getting the 2 free nights requires 4 STAYS and not consecutive nights at the same hotel. Liquor avail. also hit and miss.
Overall: Hilton is a better chain for the everyman since there are so many properties nationally. Marriott elites claim it is best for frequent urban destination travelers-- but I still don't see the perspective of that preference.
A last thing to do is make sure that the room is not a "studio" suite. You really want the bed in it's own room.
