There's no reasonable timeframe to expect a tourist visa to India, at least through the Houston office.

I flew to Houston in January, had a 10:00 am appt at Travisa, showed up there at 9:50 am and there were 30 people waiting in line. After about an hour, I was able to submit my application. The visa was issued the next morning, and I received it via Fedex a day later. Total of 2 days turnaround. Very happy, and was able to get on a plane to Delhi the next day.

Last month, I sent visa apps for my wife and 2 kids in the same envelope; we're all US citizens holding valid US passports. My wife's and son's visas were approved one week later; my daughter's took an additional 2 weeks. Total of 4 weeks turnaround.

And yes, we specified the dates for our next trip (in May) and we were all issued 10-year visas. We plan on visiting about every other year.
