Ok, now I'm confused. They charge a $300 'deposit' on cc (ie, it's not just a regular 'hold'?) & then make every single guest who stays in their hotel wait for 15 minutes for them to check a room before letting them check-out? Something doesn't make sense. I get it if it's cash but not if it's a c.c. They can just charge the c.c. for damages.

+1. No one was dissing you, just saying that in a case of no c.c. & instead cash, that the hotel might have the policy due to prior problems that had nothing to do w/ you but which you get to reap the benefits of those problems.
