I found Alamo to be close to $200 cheaper than National for the same time frame.
So, are Alamo cars at least clean? I usually rent from Hertz or National and always find their cars clean and in decent shape.
In my mind, it's crazy to pay more than a couple of bucks more to rent from National over Alamo. And I only pay those few dollars for the convenience of the Emerald Aisle in airport locations which offer it. It's basically the same company -- the cars seem to be the same. You're just paying for the brand.
If anyone else is headed to Hawaii, look at my post in the Hawaii forum discussing Alamo's current very low rates and promos there. National would be materially more expensive for, basically, nothing.
