I know it is difficult because . .
We don't want to cause any trouble
We like to essentially be invisible
We don;t have time
Yada Yada Yada
But, the best thing to do in this situation is as follows:
1. Notify the Flight Attendant
2. If the issue continues, request that the Flight Deck Be Notified
3. If the issue continue, request that LEO meet your flight
4. If ANY of these issues are ignored, immediately notify Ground Personnel when you land and request a Red Coat and a Manager. Also request that they retain the names and employee numbers of the in-flight personnel.
Outside of transportation, the job of the crew is your safety. If a safe environment cannot be accommodated, there are steps which can and should be take (see above).
There is no place for abusive behavior in our society, whether physical or verbal, in-flight or on the ground. Sometimes, these people need a little reminder and having the First Officer or LEO express this reminder usually seals the deal.
Usually these people are the DYKWIA crowd, drunk or ticking time bombs and you are doing everyone the balance of that day a favor by bringing their behavior to the attention of the crew and local authorities.
