Bliztu: I always check for the rack rate and take it if lower than govt per diem precisely because I don't want the room next to the pool pump or with the balcony right in front of the huge lit pedestal hotel sign or the one next to the breakfast room.

Mark: The actual exchange when something like this:

"You booked the state rate. Can I see your state employee ID?"
"State, I didn't mean to book state, I am federal and have an ID for that. Can you just raise the rate to $77?"
"No, all I can do is cancel the reservation..."
