Being a Diamond member, and a gov't employee I can almost guarantee they'll ask for a Gov't ID at check in. It has happened to me nearly every time. Sometimes the gov't rate is actually higher than most people pay, and the rooms are usually the crappiest. So it may not be worth the savings.
