My guess is that the designer was aiming for "modern" British. The elements of British design on the ground floor are the bronze hunting groups as you walk in, scenes from the English countryside behind the front desk/concierge desk, most if not all the modern original art work on the ground floor is by British artists, the reproduction paintings going up the staircase are all English masters, the chairs in the lobby are reproduction Chippendale, and the breakfront in the lounge area is filled with English porcelain tea caddies.
