This happened to me once. My first trip to New York on business and I went into the bar, ordered a bottle of beer, drank up, paid the bill and left. Ended up being chased down the street by the barman yelling obscenities and threatening to kill me...supposedly I should have tipped him for taking the top off the bottle.

tax in NYC is 8.875% or 9% so 2xing the tax is still OK in my book if a person doesnt mind giving an 18% tip, which I think is way too high. and remember when figuring it out it shouldnt include the price of the tolls or taxes, so on a $41 fare Id say $6-8 (15-20%) is way enough giving $10 is giving a 25% tip!
Good to know - I've only done the trip 50 or so times - that I've been way overpaying! But at least I havent been yelled at!
