You could start a post asking if any Gold card holders who qualify for the free Silver card for a friend or family member would like to pocket some money and sell it to you... Or there might be some miserable ones who spend so much time at 36,000 ft they have no friends to offer it to...

I got my first Silver card about 10 years ago from a Gold - but I didnt have to pay for it, since the Gold was my Dad! ^
