Continental currently does not sell their ELR seats on board. You have to buy them before you board the plane. The rows are clearly labeled “premium seats” on the overhead compartments near the seat numbers.

The CO FA’s are very strict about keeping the poachers out of the ELR seating, and I for one am perfectly happy with this. I recently did a EWR-LHR r/t where I had 21ABC to myself both ways (ghetto first ) and another flyer has 21DEF solo both ways. The row 20 ELR seat sets were empty both ways.

Several people on both flights tried to poach into row 20 and were quickly rebuffed. One guy got quite irate, stating “I am a Platinum Elite and I should be able to sit there” but there was absolutely no caving from the crew. ^
