I am contemplating booking a creative routing for my next business trip, which will involve 3 (or even 4) connections on the way to my final destination. Parameters to consider are:
- interline agreements (that should be fine)
- connection time (> 3 hours?)
- mandatory customs control? (you mention US and LH, so you're probably crossing a border)
- how sensitive are you to not getting your luggage back on-time/ever ?
Or maybe your luggage will take a direct flight, arrive way before you and will be staying in the open on the floor near the luggage desk for hours.
I believe 4 is safe. In any case, check-in will tell you.
