While the Taj Vivanta (Panaji) does look like an awkward business building, it is very nice inside and the staff is extremely helpful. You have to be screened every time you enter, which is a little annoying. But the dining is delicious and the staff are there to welcome you with fresh juice when you check in.

The facilities are nice: rooftop pool, fitness center, and a decent bakery and bookstore inside.

The cons: it is in an awkward part of town (however only a 30 min walk to the beach) and there are plenty of taxis and auto rickshaws around to take you where ever you need. There are plenty of cruise ships in the area for a "night out" but other than that the area is limited.
