Amex Canada [via Global Transfers vs direct application]

Hello !
Within the next three months, I will have to go to Canada for a period of about 6/8 months,
Currently i've got the IDC Centurion and a Zync card from the USA.
I've already got my Canadia address and the phone number related to this house.
in order to get a Gold Charge card from Canada, what is the best?
Apply directly to the card assuming that I haven't any credit history in Canada or apply through the Global Transfert Program? and if I apply through the Global Transfert, does It means that my Zync card will be closed?

The fact that I want to get an AMex in Canada , it's just because I don't want to have to pay for Forex fees
