How to "teach" Common Sense?

I have already filed an email with *wood Customer Service. Briefly:

I have been staying at the Sheraton Raleigh Capital Center for 7 weeks now. Moved here from Seattle, haven't found an apartment as of yet. At the beginning was very pleased with some of the staff here (and noted such including writing to *wood). However; the last few weeks have been making my life very stressful to say the least.

Last week while travelling to Winston-Salem for work I lost my wallet. I had everything in it - everything - ID, credit card, debit cards, $300 cash, picture of my niece, B&N gift card, etc. EVERTYHING. I know nobody in Raleigh btw. . .

So although I have applied for replacements for everything, it takes about 7 - 14 days. I have cashed 4 checks since then at the front desk. None over $75. Realize - I have been here for SEVEN weeks. This at least gives me some cash so that I can purchase food and incidentals.

This morning I went to cash a check for $50. The front desk person asked for my driver's license. I explained that it was lost and that the # was on the check. She said that she couldn't cash it. I said "you've known me for seven weeks and I have paid my bill each week. . ." She refused. She then brought another person here whom I have never seen - that person said "do you know her? The first woman said "yes." The second said, 'well, I work at night, I've never seen you and I don't know you, we can't cash the check." They refused to cash the check for $50.

To say the least, I am disappointed with this lack of service - 1. since a written benefit is that you can cash up to $300 a day; 2. the fact that I have cashed checks here before; 3. the fact that I have been staying here for seven weeks now (and have reservations for 3 more weeks); 4. the fact that it was for $50 and the person knows me (had just given me a room key without asking for ID moments before I asked to cash my check).

I am just amazed at the lack of common sense and service displayed at this hotel lately (this isn't the first example, but just the most recent).

What would you all suggest I had done (aside from NOT losing my wallet? ). . .
