One property I frequent use to be bad about not asking at check in. One trip I stopped by the desk later to tell them I wanted my points (not interested in the cash). I was told they automatically put in for points. I explained the MR guarantee was we were to be ASKED which amenity we wanted and them just assuming did not negate the payment. I'm presumming she discussed this with the manager because they never missed after that!
