Basically, yes. When you buy your ticket in the airport they will tell you what is at that moment the fastest connection.
Personally I prefer to change in Brussel Centraal with luggage, instead of Brussel Zuid/Midi. There are elevators in Centraal, and I haven't found those yet in Midi/Zuid.
Once I arrive in BRU and exit customs/baggage claim, will I see signs to the train station?
They are there. But if you don't see them, after customs go to the escalators/elevators area at your 1 o'clock (don't know if you get what I'm trying to say
), and go down to the lowest level.
Will I be able to buy a thru ticket there to Bruges?
Yes, see above.
Will a RT ticket be cheaper than one way?
No, unless you can buy a weekend ticket. (Basically you have to go on Friday afternoon or Saturday on come back before Sunday night, the same weekend.)
