Hello, I've just discovered FlyerTalk, absolute newbie & absolutely not clear how to do. I have the FB, still in Ivory Level, with 69,528 Award Miles. I will go to Washington DC in Sept 2011 (from Paris) for a month. I suppose I can use these Miles for this trip but I would like to use them in the most advantageous way. If you would like to use your miles in an advantageous way, I would suggest that you look for a Promo-Award to the US in Business, which is 50000 return.
The Promo-Awards for September should come out end of July or end of August and you would have to make sure that you grab one for you immediately, i.e. before they have run out of seats.
This advantageous way, however, would require you to be flexible. You might need some flexibility regarding your flight date and you will probably not get a Promo-Award straight to Washington. So you would have to buy a ticket from some airport nearby (for which there is a Promo-Award) to Washington. Finally, depending on when the Promo-Awards come out, you might be able to buy a Promo-Award only for the outbound flight, but not for the inbound flight. But even then, the Promo-Award thing could make sense because for 50000 miles you would get a one-way Business award ticket from Paris to somewhere in the US (possibly via AMS) and a one-way Economy award ticket from Washington to Paris.
