I'd head right back downstairs immediately, as I have to do sometimes when my cardkey hasn't been properly set up, and have the polite conversation.
I was traveling with my large teenage son last year when we stopped at an HGI for the night, and the desk made a big deal about upgrading us to some sort of Executive Room... we got up there and it had one king bed. As unacceptable for us as your room was for you. We returned downstairs immediately and said politely the room wouldn't do at all, Executive or not, and a lot of quacking and squawking ensued... we were finally given a room with two queens on the ground floor opposite from the kitchen. They claimed it was the last one available in the hotel, but the parking lot was two-thirds empty and the lobby was deserted. Some sort of weird hidden agenda there, I'll never know what. Maybe they had one or more floors closed down to save money.
