There will never be a minimum connection time that pleases all passengers nor will there ever be one that guarantees there will never be a mis-connect. It's really the traveler's responsibility to know what they are buying. I've cancelled tickets or changed itineraries when the schedule changed post-booking and left me with a 30-minute connection in PHL. I know my comfort level and what I'm willing to risk and I won't buy a ticket that doesn't fit in there.
To the OP: almost all airlines will sell you tickets with short connections; and while they will sometimes hold a flight for late passengers, sometimes they won't. If they do, it's because it's convenient for THEM, not for you: less expense to put people up in hotels overnight. And if it's inconvenient for THEM, that flight will be gone on time.
If you are seriously considering changing airlines over this, you may need to have your expectations reset. Next time you're caught late on a short connection, you may be spending the night in DFW or ORD.
