Unfortunately in today's age of on time departures being such an important statistic it is very unlikely they would hold a flight unless it was for a large amount of passengers.
I would send an email to customer service and be very clear in what you are requesting in terms of compensation. If it is fair I think they will award you some compensation.
I routinely book ~30 minute connections in CLT knowing problems can happen but that is a risk that you always take unfortunately.
