As for award stays, my recent King Non-smoking at the Sheraton Phuket became a Smoking with 2 double beds - and they claimed to have upgraded me!

Said there was nothing they could do about it - sorry! We did not complain until we were moved to another dumpy room the next day which was only improved by having a king bed.
