The only thing I can add is that if you encounter a situation where your bedding and smoking preferences are not met on a paid reservation, you should call Hotel Customer Service to report it.

Hotel Customer Service will know how to address the issue as a Room Type Discrepancy. That is their job and whether or not it is actually a guarantee can be taken up with them after the hotel responds.

For what it's worth, it is not about me being right about everything because, frankly, I'm not always right. My replies come from over six years of experience in customer service at Starwood and Starwood Preferred Guest, but policies change from time to time and I am not always in the loop.
