Can't offer any personal insight - just what i'd heard. You seem to be somewhat closer to the situation.
In a similar vein there's Apt over by Mansion House tube that fits a similar brief. Open until 2am/3am, but again I've always managed to dodge the invites so far.
Night buses do have quite a reputation, somewhat unfounded but in part based on reality. In my younger days I was a fairly frequent user and from Thursday night on to the weekend they could be fairly lively.
Thursday evening is the weekend, isn't it
