This is my complaint (which goes hand in hand with you saying that nothing can make up for lost sleep)--you shouldn't even be able to HEAR the phone ring in the next room! Maybe my standards are too high, but as you said I have a reasonable expectation when I check into a hotel room that it will be quiet, clean, and functional.
