Better accomodations should have been yours for the asking! What are we coming to in this day and age that it's even a question? Simple: if you don't like the room, whether it's because of the hideous fuscia drapes or because there's two people (ahem!) making more noise than they should next door, the innkeeper should happily give you another, if there's one available, and they should take EXTRA care to see that the new room isn't a different flavor of the same thing....

I'm not old enough to be lecturing you like this, so don't think "here's some old fart lost in the (fill in the blank decade)'s. But I share your pain that today, we're made to feel as if it's a big imposition if we want to switch rooms.

It's not. It's basic innkeeping. The innkeeper can't control whether some baby has a problem, or whether there's a sexfest going on at 3am. He surely can control whether or not you have the opportunity to get some sleep, which is why we pay these astronomical and growing rates. If he can't soundproof the rooms, he can give you another.

And you shouldn't be shamed into wondering whether you're being too much of a primadonna for asking.

Go forth and SLEEP!

(And as to innkeepers who place their best customers -platinum etc.- next to the elevator shaft, OR any other noise they might be aware of: you won't have your best customers, or any, if you're dumb enough not to care......)
