Bolding mine: One data point.....
This happened in another country(ies) vs at a US/TSA controlled airport so we don't know the rules for that/those country/countries but at a US/TSA controlled airport, flight crews and their luggage
are screened-their argument was that they should be exempt from the NoS.
Now, like the article states, why weren't the coins picked up on x-ray

as it seems to me that it would be quite obvious. Perhaps there was "someone on the inside" (i.e. a screener or screeners was/were also involved)
