Oooohhh ... I've just eaten humble pie.

To be more precise, I've just eaten an individual Heston Blumenthal Chicken and Leek pie, from Waitrose.

The OH and I are both 'cooks' ... as in we are accustomed, over several decades, of preparing food from the basic ingredients. In other words, we can both cook. However, it's nice to have a piyeeee without all the faffing around that can involve. So, today she picked up a couple at our local Waitrose [yes, they were about to hit sell-by date] and we've just eaten them.
  • For the first time ever, in the context of bought-in pies, the pastry worked ... instead of being an half-cooked soggy bottom.
  • The meat content was thigh, as opposed to the tasteless white breast bit.
  • It was, simply, delicious.

Bring it on, Heston ... if you [and your food engineers] can produce the first supermarket pie that we've ever met that actually works, please visit Gate Gourmet again [with a baseball bat] and show them how to do it. And tell the BA CC how the oven controls work.

It CAN be done ^
