i'm ALL for UpgradeMe posting links. why have scads of separate threads on the same subject when the valuable input from flyertalk participants can be accessed in one nice, easy to locate place?? answer me that....

Though we're dangerously off-topic, I do, in fact have a few answers to that question (you may not like them, but you asked

).
One answer is that there are threads that
seem topically related (because they may have the same name of a hotel, etc.) but which are in fact pose questions that are NOT covered in those other threads. In fact, I have gone through a number of threads in response to UpgradeMe's suggested links only to have wasted a lot of time not getting the information on the topic of the "new" thread. This is because the search capabilities of this site (like most search engines) are pretty basic and can only look for key words rather than for the
meaning of the topic.
Another answer is that responses get dated; I think a new thead on "ranking the Ws in New York" (for instance) can usefully be raised every 4 months or so. I personally am interested in current opinions rather than archived opinions (some people may be interested in both -- they are free to find older threads).
A third answer (following from above) is that having a new thread does not prevent anyone from searching for older threads nor forces anyone to read the new thread,
so what's the harm??? If you really think your new thread needs to be read in light of earlier threads, by all means, resurrect those earlier threads -- but if you don't...don't.
If UpgradeMe is genuinely intending to provide a service, then, as I say, I apologize for poking fun (I didn't think I was being particularly mean--I hope not as I'm sure UpgradeMe is a fine person) in my original post. Again, it seemed to me that the curtness of his replies seemed to indicate some (unnecessary, in my view) annoyance, but if I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time, nor will it be the last.
In any case,
fly co to see the yanks, I appreciate the chance to explain why I don't think insisting on adding to earlier threads is always useful or necessarily courteous. In fact, I think it should be encumbent on the person providing links to earlier threads to actually review those threads and ensure that those earlier threads are relevant to the new topic. If not, listing a bunch of links is more of a hindrance than a help (IMHO).
And now, back to our regularly scheduled thread...
