I think there's very good reason to believe they eventually will just like every other carrier is headed. It's a stealth devaluation of FF programs everywhere.
Once we're paying YQ on AA awards there won't be a way to get to Europe or Africa without a $300-$600 free on top of the taxes. Total taxes/fees on an award flight to the UK will exceed $500.
The writing is on the wall. I suspect it would be wise for most of us to start burning miles....quickly. The value of a mile earned via a regular flight or an MR is about to plummet.
