Not to beat a dying horse here, as I believe I've said these things in another Kapalua thread, but two things that put me over the edge at Kapalua when I was there late last year:
1) There was a large patch of mold growing on the ceiling above the shower in my room. It seemed to fit with the quality of the rest of the room, but just grossed me out. I expect top-of-the-line from Starwood Lux. Collection properties. I called to point this out, hoping to change rooms. Instead, someone came and painted over it.
2) I can echo PremEx's pool experience. Service around the pool when we were there was awful. The pool restaurant was fine, but pool-side drink/appetizer service was terrible. One day we got served ONCE in the 4+ hours we were there and had to chase the guy down to get it. He seemed to hate his job.
Someone recently told me that in their opinion, the condition of this property is on par with the Wigwam here in Arizona, which I thought was right on -- two candidates to be sold or downgraded. Why couldn't they have sold Kapalua and kept The Orchid?? (No doubt because it would have commanded a far lower price.)
