I read this with interest, as I'm going to UK/Ireland in a couple months for the first time with my iPhone 3 (not 3S). I want to receive calls, if needed. I don't need to receive texts, voicemail, or anything like that. We will be staying at B&Bs with free WiFi the entire time. I'm not interested in jailbreaking the phone.

So, my understanding is that I should set up an International plan before I leave, turn off data roaming, and put it into airplane mode? Or not airplane mode if I want to get phone calls? I'm confused
