If you are checking the exact same route, which means FROM Singapore to SFO, you should get the exact same fare. But if you choose to fly FROM SFO TO SINGAPORE, then yes, the fare would be cheaper originating from the USA to Singapore.

Its all about market share really. From Singapore to anywhere, SIA is the preferred airline hence its the most expensive to fly on. But from elsewhere to Singapore, there are variations and SQ must therefore fight for market share with other home airlines on their home turf and hence they offer cheaper fares.

If you are in Singapore and choose to use the US site to book - you may.. but again, the question I am asking is .. will you be flying from or to Singapore? Cos it will be pointless for you to buy a ticket travelling from USA to Singapore when you actually want to go the other way round!
Hello Guy!

Thank you for being so accommodating on your forum! I really appreciate it. I tried the United Site and posted on the United forum and thread got locked but no answer or help was provided.

Let me answer your question:

I am investigating because I have to negotiate my package to move to Singapore with my company.

Since I would live in Singapore, I have been looking the following route SIN->SFO. I have tried looking at the same route SIN->SFO on both SIA US and SIA SIN sites and the prices are different for the same route, same time, same flight.

I contacted the carriers but they gave me the run around. It seems the difference is the class of fare that you have access from. But your explanation makes sense and if you follow the dollar the answer you provided makes more sense. After all the carriers are in the business to make money.

Thanks!
